Title of Activity: Canadian Legends (Aboriginal Blackfoot)

Brief description of activity:
The students will explore Canadian legends through reading different legends, books, and the use of the internet, http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/blkftcreation.html and http://members.ozemail.com.au/~oban/ (for fun at home). The students will learn what the legends are about, why they are developed and if there is a specific pattern to follow when writing a legend. They will then start the beginning of one of their own tales. The teacher will have the email of another gr. 3 class doing the same project in another school. The students will exchange the beginnings with the other class by email. When finished they will send them back again and see the development as well as evaluate the final tale.

General Learner Outcome (GLOs):
The student will discover gratitude, understanding and acceptance of others maintaining a distinctive lifestyle.

Specific Learner Outcome (SLOs):
The student will correct, change, and organize sentence structure.

Relevant ICT Outcomes:
C.4.1.3 - organize information from more than one source.
C.5.1.1 - share information collected from electronic sources to add to group task.
P.1.1.2 - create original text, using word processing software, to communicate and demonstrate understanding of forms and techniques.
P.6.1.2 - communicate electronically with people outside the classroom.

Rational for Computer Integration:
Computers have been incorporated in this assignment so that the students will have many sources to find information. Students will have a chance to independently create a story that includes the proper writing & editing methods. All students will be able to work with different styles of information at their own pace and difficulty level. At the same time they will be learning how to expand their opinion of the other cultures around them.

Has anyone ever wondered why the river doesnt change with the tilt of the world?

This is what I am thinking. The river in my city runs north, but what makes it stay on course when the earth is tilted and rotating, not to mention on top of that it is revolving around the sun as well?

any ideas?
